On the agenda of a state historic preservation commission Friday is a routine consent calendar item that might affect Rossmoor's progress on building a new event center.
Opponents of the event center plan last year sought the historical designation from the State Historical Resources Commission of the Stanley Dollar Clubhouse. They are concerned about construction of the event center and its parking lot, which would impinge on the lawn of the Dollar Clubhouse. The clubhouse is the former vacation home of shipping magnate R. Stanley Dollar, the Contra Costa Times reports.
On the agenda of the commission is a consent calendar proposing to recommend the Dollar clubhouse and eight other properties around the state to the National Register of Historic Places. The commission meets at 9 a.m. Friday in the Secretary of State Auditorium, 1500 11th St., Sacramento.
That agenda is attached to this article. At most public meetings, consent calendar items are passed unanimously with no discussion.
Last March, after a contentious meeting with dozens of public comments, the board of the Golden Rain Foundation approved the $12 million event center by a 7-2 vote. The foundation runs the gated retirement community.
