Hearing Tuesday Night On The Orinda Housing Element

The City Council will look at the plan that will guide Orinda's housing plans

The Orinda City Council will discuss how much, where and when new housing should be built in the city at their regular scheduled meeting Tuesday evening.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Library Auditorium, 26 Orinda way.

On the agenda is a review and public hearing of the fourth draft of the Orinda Housing Element.

According to a preliminary document, the housing element is designed to ensure an adequate supply of housing in town for current and future residents as well as conserving the current stock of housing.

The report notes Orinda has experienced limited growth so far this century. The city's population rose 0.3 percent between 2000 and 2010 compared to 5.8 percent between 1990 and 2000.

It also notes the median price for a home in Orinda is now $1 million.

According to the report, there were 6,804 total housing units in Orinda in 2010. The city's General Plan calls for a maximum of 7,429 housing units in town.

The housing element is designed to guide city leaders on how many housing units to allow in the city, where they should be and when they should be built.
