Moraga's Town Council Launches Search for New Town Manager

The hunt for a town manager to replace Mike Segrest tops the agenda Wednesday, but Moraga's Town Council will also have plenty more on its plate.

The opening agenda item for this week's meeting of the Moraga Town Council may be the most pleasant -- issuing a proclamation declaring July to be "Parks and Recreation Month" in town.

After that, the council ponders a report from outgoing Town Manager Mike Segrest on a fix for the long-troubled, costly Moraga Road resurfacing project, a resolution approving the waiver of fees and permits for four new bocce ball courts on the south side of Rancho Laguna Park as well as plans for a "partial spatial separation" between human and canine-dedicated areas at the park.

A partial spatial separation means a barrier of some sort, something that might appease the park's dog-less human users as well as those with canine pals, though its precise configuration won't be available for review until tomorrow night's meeting.

The council is also expected to approve a motion authorizing executive headhunters Peckham & McKenney to begin a search for yet another town manager after Mike Segrest made it known that he was interested in seeking work elsewhere.  News that Segrest was interviewing for a job in Telluride, Colo., caught the council -- and most of Moraga -- off guard.

The council meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School auditorium.  If you're new to the area, and want to see how things work, you may want to drop by.
