Discussion: “A Blueprint For Great Schools”

On Thursday, January 12th, the Lamorinda Democratic Club will feature Craig Cheslog, Principal Advisor to State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, discussing "A Blueprint for Great Schools." Recognizing that California must plan for the future, State Superintendent Tom Torlakson, following his election in November 2010, brought together 59 leaders from across California—teachers, parents, community, labor and business leaders—to share their thinking about education in the state. The resulting report, A Blueprint for Great Schools (www.cde.ca.gov/blueprint), provides vision and direction for California’s education system including: a focus on 21st Century learning, meeting the needs of the whole child, and rebuilding the ranks of California’s teachers with resources and respect.

Cheslog's responsibilities as Principal Advisor include providing strategic policy advice to Superintendent Torlakson; directing the Superintendent's special projects and initiatives; serving as the Superintendent's liaison to other high-level individuals and organizations; managing the Superintendent’s Initiatives Office, Executive Office Support Unit, Awards Unit, and Superintendent's Correspondence Unit; and representing the Superintendent at speeches, meetings, and other events.

Prior to joining the California Department of Education in January 2011, Cheslog served as the District Director for Assemblymember Tom Torlakson, after previously serving in the same capacity for then-State Senator Torlakson. He also served as the Political Director for Torlakson's successful campaign for State Superintendent of Public Instruction in November 2010. Cheslog has served as the Lamorinda Democratic Club's president since June 2008.
