I have been a leader in Orinda schools for 12 years in many different leadership roles. As an Orinda Union School Board Trustee I will be a powerful advocate for excellence in our schools, while providing a safe environment where every student can achieve his or her potential. I will promote a vision that will give our children the academic foundation, technological education, and experiences in the arts and music that develops critical-thinkers, innovators and make them well-rounded individuals. My leadership experience in Orinda schools includes: • Legislative Representative and Co-Chair, Las Trampas Legislative Team; 32nd District PTA Legislative Committee (county-wide); • School Site Council Member: Glorietta School: 5 years, Orinda Intermediate School (OIS): 3 years; • Parents Club board member, Glorietta, OIS & MHS, and the Education Foundation of Orinda (EFO); • OUSD Strategic Planning Committee member and other district committees, including the AUHSD Measure A Parcel Tax Oversight Committee My priorities include: 1. Fostering excellent teaching; 2. Improving communication and collaboration between all stakeholders: parents, teachers, students, administrators, and community; 3. Providing physical and emotional safety in our schools; 4. Strengthening information technology resources and training, and 21st century curriculum; and 5. Maximizing the use of existing resources and taxpayer dollars through conscientious oversight and fiscal review. I have a Bachelors of Science degree from UC Davis in Environmental Planning, and professional and business experience in environmental consulting and property management. Our family moved to Orinda in 1998 and my two children attended Orinda schools since Kindergarten and 1st Grade. My experience, proven leadership, dedication and collaborative approach will contribute to the continued success of our schools and our school district, which in turn will contribute to a strong community and help maintain our home values. I would appreciate the opportunity to serve you on the OUSD School Board, and respectfully ask for your Vote.
The actions Bekki Van Voorhis-Gilbert and her "friends" are taking are destroying the possibility of a cohesive environment at Wagner Ranch. I'm sure that the vicious attacks by these so-called "community leaders" don't make it easy for Principal Arnerich to foster a "positive social climate" either. In addition, bringing up personal issues with an administrator in a public forum and then releasing it to the general public is completely inappropriate and out of place. Issues should be dealt with on an individual basis. Janice has always been incredibly supportive as a Principal and we are lucky to have such a talented and capable woman at the head of Wagner Ranch.
I have met Bekki once & heard her speak infront of the OUSD, I found her to be passionate about our school district & very much had a desire for our children to be nurtured. Dr. Miller, I am sorry but from my point of view & I was there, I lived it. when it comes to Janis everything you write is complete Hogwash! She is a liar, A mean person that I would discribe as a Bully! Now if the Superintendent & the President of the board Matt Moran had done their jobs then I am sure it would have never gone as far as so many people having to get up infront of the board in a public forum and speak out about the wrongs the children had gone through, That should concern you! I am sure there would not have been lawsuites against the district if they would have just done the right thing That should also concern you! All that would have taken was to actually meet with so many parents & worked through a solution rather than circling the wagons, denying & ignoring the problem. What about Measure M? I Would think that this would be a concerned as it is your tax dollars that are not going to where they are supposed to be going and the funds are unmonitored plus the fact that for two years the money was controlled by vendors of the district that recieved business from the decisions they made and it would still be that way if not for people like Bekki!
Unfortunately I think many Orindians are blind to the fact that they were mislead about measure B How do you feel about Measure B and how it was handled by our superintendent whom sent out emails suggesting ways to get around the measure and the head of the Board (Matt Moran) that gave him a contract extension and a raise? There are a lot of our tax dollars going to Measure B, The measure itself has not been followed legally as to how it was written and presented to the voters, I know it’s a touchy question but people want to know if they can trust their Board and Superintendent.
Yet Bekki Van Voorhis-Gilbert has then listed on her page endorsing her when they are not.
