Election Profile: Sue Severson – Orinda City Council Candidate

Watch this space for a series of introductory profiles of local candidates running for office in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda. Lamorinda Patch will be providing more in-depth interviews with the candidates as the election progresses.

Sue Severson moved to Orinda in 1978, where she and her husband raised their five children. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, but her most satisfying work has been as homemaker and community volunteer. In addition to volunteering over the years in many capacities, she was elected to the Orinda Union School District Board for two terms from 1993-2002, served on the Miramonte High School Parents' Club Board as president 2006-2007, and is currently serving her first term on the Orinda City Council.

Lamorinda Patch: Do you have a particular platform or issue of interest this election year?

Orinda faces major challenges, including failing infrastructure and declining revenues. My promise is to help establish priorities to optimally allocate scarce resources while involving all interested parties in the community.

LamorindaPatch: What are your plans for Orinda if elected?

My approach in public service is to maintain a respectful attitude toward all participants in the process, foster open and responsive communication, and focus intently on fiscal responsibility. I believe that we succeed in maximizing the quality of life in Orinda only through a collaborative effort partnering community, schools and business.
