Don Tatzin Selected As Lafayette Mayor For 2014

The council also selects Brandt Andersson as vice mayor

The Lafayette City Council on Monday night selected veteran councilman Don Tatzin to be the city's mayor for 2014.

The council also installed Councilman Brandt Andersson as vice mayor for next year.

This is the sixth time Tatzin will be mayor. He's been on the council for more than 25 years.

Tatzin said there are a number of goals he'd like to accomplish in the coming year.

One is to decide what to do with two properties the city has purchased on Moraga Road.

Another is to figure out how to make sure the city has adequate fire services after the closure late last year of a fire station in Lafayette.

He added he'd like to finally decide one way or another on the proposed Terraces project at Pleasant Hill Road and Deer Hill Road.

He said he'd also like to focus on police services and road maintenance in the budget with the possibility of finding money for lighting improvements downtown.

He also wants to plan a 5-year anniversary celebration for the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, which he said has turned out to be as beneficial as everyone hoped it would be.

Tatzin also praised outgoing Mike Anderson, who he said led Lafayette through a challenging year.

He also noted Anderson is retiring from his job at the East Bay Regional Park District, a move he jokingly said would leave Anderson with more time for city business.
