Water Main Gushes in Lafayette

Emergency crews on scene at Mount Diablo Boulevard and Stuart Street Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were on the scene at Stuart Street, Lafayette, Tuesday afternoon for a New Year's Day gusher out of a water main manhole.

The gusher struck at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, blocking Stuart Street. The stream of water flowed west downhill on Mount Diablo Boulevard to a storm drain at Brown Avenue, edging into one of two westbound lanes on Mount Diablo Boulevard. East Bay Municipal Utility District and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District trucks were on the scene Tuesday afternoon along with officers from the Lafayette Police Department.
