Vallejo Police Officer Killed In Line of Duty

Vallejo Police Officer James Capoot died Thursday of wounds received while attempting to stop an SUV driven by a suspected bank robber.

The Bay Area law enforcement community is mourning the on-duty death of a well-liked Vallejo police officer shot while attempting to stop a car fleeing the scene of a daylight bank robbery in his town.

James Capoot, a 19-year veteran of his department and former Marine, was found wounded not far from where his car had rammed an SUV carrying the suspected bank robber. Officers said Capoot was hit before he was able to return fire.

One man has been arrested in connection with the robbery and shooting.
