Unmoving Moving Van Blocks Rheem Boulevard

Update: Photo comes in from Tuesday scene when a van got stuck when undercarriage scraped against hilly road in Orinda.

Patch reader Suzanne Driver of Moraga sent us a photo from Tuesday's Rheem moving van gridlock. "I was lucky enough to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time," wrote Driver in an email. "Was a mess." Thanks, Suzanne.

A disabled moving van blocked hilly, winding Rheem Boulevard in Orinda for hours Tuesday morning, a police sergeant said.

The full-size moving van was traveling along Rheem Boulevard near Calvin Drive around 8:45 a.m. when its undercarriage scraped against the hilly road and it became stuck, Orinda Police Sgt. Neil Rafanan said.

No injuries were reported. Traffic backed up, with the two-lane roadway partially blocked, Rafanan said.

A tow truck arrived at the scene at 11 a.m., he said.
