Several lanes of southbound I-680 in unincorporated Walnut Creek are closed after a man jumped to his death from an overpass this morning, a sheriff's spokesman said.

Contra Costa County sheriff's deputies responded to a report at 9:15 a.m. of a man standing on the edge of the Treat Boulevard overpass, sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

The man, whose name has not been released, jumped from the overpass and landed on southbound I-680 where he was pronounced dead, Lee said.

Three lanes were closed as deputies cleared the area, Lee said.

As of 10:50 a.m., the three right lanes were still closed, California Highway Patrol Officer Scott Cakebread said.
