Thieves Find Keys, Drive Off With Mustang

Lafayette police investigate brazen house break-in midday Wednesday on Cambridge Drive, near Happy Valley Road.

Neighbors are alarmed about a brazen midday break-in on Cambridge Drive, Lafayette, in which burglars ransacked a house and, coming upon some keys, apparently sped off in a Ford Mustang.

Lafayette Police Chief Eric Christensen told the News 24/680 website that:

  • The house on Cambridge Drive, near Happy Valley Road, was ransacked sometime between 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
  • A 2010 Ford Mustang with a black racing stripe was stolen.
  • The front-door glass was broken to gain entry.

The neighborhood in recent years has suffered the rifling of a locked security container for expensive contractors' tools and a mail theft that resulted in credit card fraud, according to a neighbor who asked to remain anonymous.
