Structures Briefly Threatened by Orinda Grass Fire

Fire scorched 1.5 acres at Donald and Hall drives Sunday, briefly threatening three structures before it could be brought under control.

The Moraga-Orinda Fire District responded to a Wildland fire in the area of Hall Drive and Donald Drive at 6:47 p.m. Sunday, finding an acre of grassland on fire when they arrived and three structures in danger.

Battalion Chief Darrell Lee said crews deployed to protect structures on Keith Drive and went to work to keep the fire from spreading further.  Eight engines, two ambulances, a helicopter and two hand crews with a total of 70 firefighters responded to put down the blaze.

The fire was fully extinguished by 7:30 p.m.  Lee said the cause of the blaze remains under investigation and crews remained on scene to monitor the area for hot spots.
