SK8TR Kids Act Up; Adult Gives Chase

More reports of nocturnal hijinks by area skateboarders, and a weapon is reportedly brandished at the Moraga skate park.

We continue to get reports of confrontational acts, vandalism, and shocking disrespect for one's elders by a small group of skaters apparently bent on tweaking the anger levels of terminally un-cool adults.

and would label their manner as begging for some parental intervention, and they nearly got it last month -- only not from their parents.

A Rimer Drive resident heard the group of five juveniles -- four white males and one Asian male -- outside his home at 9:50 p.m. on July 29, all carrying their boards. The homeowner told police he watched as the Asian male juvenile used his skateboard to strike two exterior lights on his outside planter box, damaging them.

The resident gave chase, catching up to the group at the corner of Rimer and Hodges drive and telling them to return to his home as the police had been summoned. They fled, however, and could not be located by officers.

Patch has seen and heard about a group of skaters answering this description roaming the neighborhoods late at night, challenging cars to hit them, vandalizing local buildings and defacing or vandalizing private homes. The group has become confrontational when challenged.

It is not known if that group was involved in a confrontation at the skate park Aug. 2, in which a citizen reported he was confronted by a teen while riding at the park -- the suspect displaying a folding knife and cursing the victim. That incident is under investigation by Moraga police.

I hope the police escalate this to a top priority investigation. It's vandalism and the police should seek the arrest of all suspects.

Agreed MO. Too bad the parents are obviously not the type to discipline their own children or instill respect for others. This kind of behaviour starts at home people.
