Robber On The Loose! Suspect Hits Car on I-680 While Fleeing Police

The subject robbed at gunpoint a Pleasant Hill cell phone store Tuesday night before making his freeway getaway.

A man is at large after robbing a Pleasant Hill electronics store, leading police on a pursuit and then crashing into a car on Interstate Highway 680 on Tuesday night, police said today.

Employees at the Parrot cell phone store at 1300 Contra Costa Blvd. called 911 at 6:44 p.m. to report an armed robbery at the business, according to police.

The armed suspect made off with cash and merchandise, police said. Police said an officer in the area spotted a suspicious vehicle believed to be linked to the robbery and tried to stop it, prompting a chase.

The officer stopped the pursuit in the interest of public safety after the suspect began driving erratically and collided with another vehicle on Highway 680, police said.

Police said officers recovered a weapon used in the robbery along the chase route. Police did not immediately identify the type of weapon used.

The suspect is described as a black man with a stocky build who is in his late 20s and about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, according to police.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Pleasant Hill police at (925) 288-4600.
