Public Open House Scheduled for Orinda's Station 43

Moraga-Orinda Fire District officials say Station 43 in Orinda is old and needs to be replaced. They hope the public will agree and are conducting tours of the station house so people can judge for themselves.

The Moraga-Orinda Fire District will hold a series of open houses to discuss the replacement of fire station 43 in Orinda, a 60-year-old station house MOFD administrators say would not fare well during a significant seismic event.

MOFD Chief Randall Bradley will be on hand for the first open house, scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the station house, located at 20 Via Las Cruces in Orinda.

Bradley and MOFD administrators hope that tours of the station house will help the public understand the need to build a new, seismically viable structure. The district has said replacing the 60-year-old station is its top priority, and put the cost of building a new station at $3 million.
