Update: All Power Restored to Lamorinda, Blue Jay the Cause

A blue jay created a short in some PG&E equipment Thursday morning.

The cause of the power outage that affected over 1,800 customers Thursday morning? A bird on the wire. Or wires.

As of 11:10 a.m., all power was restored to Lamorinda residents, according to a PG&E spokeswoman.

Tamar Sarkissian said crews had finished restoring power to all three cities at 11:10 this morning, and determined that a blue jay had settled on overhead equipment, causing a short that created the outage.

Sarkissian said the outage affected people from Glorietta Blvd. at Acalanes Rd. and east to Moraga Way and Hall Dr., and east from Rheem Blvd. to Moraga Way.

"At the peak, it affected over 1800 customers," she said.

She added that it was "not unusual" for birds, squirrels, and other critters to create havoc with the local power grid.
