Power Outage Darkens Moraga, Lafayette; Campo Game Goes Dark

The lights went out in parts of Moraga and Lafayette Friday evening and a lot of people weren't happy about being left in the dark.

A power outage in Moraga and Lafayette darkened hundreds of homes in both towns Friday - and plunged the local high school football game into darkness (Campo eventually won out over Moreau Catholic 37-14).

A Pacific Gas & Electric company spokesperson said as many as 1,000 customers may be without power, but secondhand reports are that many more homes and businesses may actually have been affected.

PG&E recorded the loss of power at 7:15 p.m. Power to some homes was restored at 7:54 p.m. but power to Campolindo Estates and the adjacent football stadium was down considerably longer - causing the game to be called for darkness until play could resume.

One fan called it "the longest game in Campolindo history."

The utility company did not have a cause for the outage but Moraga police and Moraga Orinda Fire District firefighters responded to numerous reports of a power pole and wires down in the 600 block of Moraga Road.

In fact, the evening was studded with calls about cars into power and telephone polls and arcing wires in the treetops over Moraga Road. Police and firefighters were kept busy rolling to each call.
