Police: Suspicious Incident With Child in Lafayette

A man appeared to beckon a 5-year-old girl to his white pickup truck Tuesday morning at Hough Avenue and Brook Street. The truck drove away when the parent approached.

Lafayette police are investigating a "suspicious circumstance" Tuesday morning in which a man appeared to wave to a 5-year-old girl to approach his white pickup truck, with a camper shell, stopped at Hough Avenue and Brook Street.

According to a police statement, the incident occurred at about 11:45 a.m. The child told her parent, who was walking nearby. The truck drove away when the parent came to the intersection.

Police said they do not know "if the driver was simply greeting the child, allowing her to cross the street or if there were other unknown motives."
