Pleasant Hill police are running down potential leads in the second day of an investigation of an explosive device found in the bushes outside Pleasant Hill Elementary School.
"The investigation continues in a positive direction," said Sgt. Dave Downs in the investigations unit of Pleasant Hill PD on Tuesday. "It's the opinion of the experts that it was a viable explosive device." He said it appeared to be homemade.
The school is on Oak Park Boulevard. Police "checked the surrounding area for additional devices," Downs said. "None were found."
Authorities evacuated students and staff Monday afternoon after a parent found the suspicious object in the bushes. The bomb squad from Walnut Creek Police Department responded. Video footage from school security cameras is being examined.
