Canyon Collision Yields DUI Arrest

Update: Motorcycle rider was in serious condition after crash between a car and a motorcycle Sunday afternoon on Pinehurst Road; CHP charges driver of car with DUI.

The unidentified driver of a car that collided with a motorcycle in unincorporated Canyon at 3:41 p.m. Sunday was arrested on suspicion of DUI by the CHP, Moraga police reported.

When Moraga officers responded on Pinehurst Road, west of Canyon Road, the injured motorcyclist, lying on the ground, "was conscious and breathing, although serious injured," according to the Moraga police report. The car was in flames, and Moraga officers first ascertained that no one was in the car. The driver of the sedan was tending to the injured motorcyclist after the crash, a biker who was on the scene shortly after the collision told Patch.

Moraga-Orinda firefighters arrived, assisted the motorcyclist and put out the car fire. The injured motorcyclist was airlifted by helicopter from Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School a couple of miles away.
