Police Action In Lafayette

A search for as many as five men who fled the scene of a car crash near the Highway 24/Interstate 680 Interchange sparked an intensive police search Wednesday.

 

Lafayette police, supported by California Highway Patrol officers and a canine team from the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office, initiated a search for as many as five men seen running from a silver Volvo after it crashed near Lafayette Wednesday.

Residents in the area report that police have stopped five men at gunpoint in the area of 1400 Springbrook Road, just over the border from Lafayette in Walnut Creek.

The incident began at 2:40 p.m. when residents reported that a car had crashed near the Highway 24/I-680 interchange and that several men bolted from the car -- briefly returned to it to retrieve something -- and then fled again on foot.

Several police officers in the area initiated a search for the men and Lafayette police stopped a group matching the description of the men who abandoned the car.
