East Bay Regional Park Police Re-Open Lafayette Reservoir

An East Bay Regional Park police spokesperson said their officers have cleared the Lafayette Reservoir and re-opened the popular weekend destination to visitors.

East Bay Regional Park police re-opened the Lafayette Reservoir Sunday after a man supposedly armed with a gun prompted a police lockdown of the area at around 11:10 a.m. Sunday.

A parks spokesman later said an exhaustive search turned up a man with a pair of hand exercisers, a spring-loaded contraption with a rubber grip similar to that of a pistol. An "all clear" was given and the park returned to normal use. Deena Pak, on her way to the reservoir to meet friends, said she was told an armed man was seen on the trail surrounding the man-made lake and advised to leave the area.

"We just did as we were told," she said.
