Orinda Blaze Part of Smoky Summer Trifecta

Three fires in two hours kept Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters hopping Thursday.

"Everything comes in threes," the old adage goes and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters are believers after battling blazes in Orinda, Brentwood and Concord Thursday.

And all within a two hour window.

Firefighters were initially called out to put down a smokey grass fire in Brentwood shortly before 5 p.m. when someone reported a storage structure fire burning in the unit block of Charles Hill Circle in Orinda - and then a second structure fire in Concord minutes later.

There were no injuries in any of the three blazes, according to district officials, although three people living in a home in the 1100 block of Jamie Drive in Concord were displaced and ammunition stored in the Orinda structure was "cooking off" as firefighters arrived.

The causes of all three fires are under investigation.
