Moraga-Orinda Fire District Holding Another Budget Workshop

Fire district officials will meet in Orinda on Wednesday night to discuss ways to balance their budget

For a second evening this month, officials at the Moraga-Orinda Fire District will ask the public at a community workshop for ideas on how to balance the district's budget.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Orinda Community Center, Room 8, 28 Orinda Way.

The district is facing a $1 million deficit in its $20 million general fund budget this fiscal year.

At a workshop in Moraga early this month, Interim Chief Stephen Healy outlined alternatives for erasing that deficit.

One of them was reducing the number of firefighting personnel on duty on a day-to-day basis for 19 to 17.

Residents suggested other methods, including increasing firefighters' work weeks and putting a parcel tax on the ballot.
