Moraga Police Log: Wayward Cow, Loud Noises, Bike Theft Arrest

Some of the incidents that kept Moraga police officers busy this past week

Here are some of the items from the Moraga Police Department log from Sept. 18 to Sept. 23.

Wednesday, Sept. 18

Wake up, time for school: Police were called at 7:48 a.m. to a home on Walford Drive for a 13-year-old who refused to get out of bed and go to school. After officers arrived, they convinced the youngster to rise and shine.

Cow on the loose: Officers responded at 8:43 p.m. to the area near Rheem Boulevard and St. Mary's Road for a report of a cow loose on the road. The animal couldn't be located. The cow's owner was notified.

Thursday, Sept. 19

Holy cow! Not again!: Officers were again called to the area near Rheem Boulevard and St. Mary's Road at 3:34 p.m. to check on that loose cow. This time, they found the animal and contacted the owner, who returned the bovine to pasture.

Credit card fraud: Police were notified at noon that someone had gained access to a 76-year-old woman's credit card and charged $1,052 worth of items and services in Oakland. No suspects at this time.

Friday, Sept. 20

Doggone alarm! Officers were dispatched at 7:07 p.m. to a home on Merrill Circle for a report of a burglar alarm being activated. Police found the door to the garage was unlocked. Nothing suspicious was found inside. The door to the house was locked. It was later determined that the homeowner's dog probably tripped the alarm.

Saturday, Sept. 21

Loud workers: Police were dispatched at 7:21 a.m. to Ascot Drive for a report of loud noise being made by a construction crew. The employees were informed of the city's noise ordinance that prohibits loud noises before 8 a.m.

Stolen cell phone: A woman called police at 8:45 p.m. to report her cell phone had been stolen at her fitness center. She said she had laid the phone down on a bench while she showered. When she returned, the phone was gone.

Bike theft arrest: A man called police at 6:56 p.m. to report that three bicycles and two construction lights were stolen from his home on Ascot Drive. Officers later noticed a woman riding one of the stolen bikes in the neighborhood. She was arrested on charges of receiving and concealing stolen property. No word yet on where the other two bikes and the lights are.

Sunday, Sept. 22

More loud folks: Police were dispatched at 12:30 a.m. to a home on Buckingham Drive, where loud music was playing. When officers arrived, the noise stopped and the house lights were turned off. Fifteen minutes later, five people left the home. After questioning the subjects, police issued citations to the five tenants of the home for violating the city's noise ordinance.

Monday, Sept. 23

Road rage warning: Officers responded at 7:51 p.m. to a report of a road rage incident that began in Moraga and ended in Orinda. One of the drivers told officers the other driver tried to "run him off the road" on Moraga Way after a tailgating incident. The driver followed the other driver to his home and got into an argument with him. Both drivers were warned about the dangers of road rage.
