Moraga Police Log: Wayward Branches, Loud Parties, Woman In The Road

Some of the incidents that kept Moraga police officers busy this past week

Some of the items that are listed on the Moraga Police Department logs between Oct. 2 and Oct. 7

Wednesday, Oct. 2

Safeway cardboard: Police were dispatched at 7:06 p.m. to the Safeway supermarket on Moraga Way for a report of a theft in progress. Officers observed two young men trying to remove a bale of cardboard worth $500 from the store's loading dock. One suspect ran off. The other was detained. That suspect told police he was going to recycle the cardboard. The subject was admonished that the cardboard belonged to Safeway and another attempts to remove it would result in his arrest.

Thursday, Oct. 3

Branch removal: Officers were dispatched at 11:47 p.m. to Sanders Drive and Wandel Drive for a tree branch that had fallen onto Sanders and was blocking one lane of westbound traffic. Neighbors had moved the branch to the curb. The owner told officers he would remove the debris during daylight hours.

Friday, Oct. 4

Another branch!: Police were sent to the 1900 block of Ascot Drive at 12:01 a.m. for a branch that fallen on that roadway. Firefighters were called in and the branch was removed.

Leaf blower rage: Officers went to Villa Lane at 9:09 a.m. for a report of a woman in her 70s yelling at landscapers using leaf blowers. She was last seen walking by the creek toward the golf course. Officers searched the area but didn't find her.

Not another branch!: Officers were sent to Sullivan Drive at 10:44 a.m. for yet another fallen tree branch. This one was blocking part of the southbound lane. Officers removed the branch and advised the tree owner of the situation.

Hit-and-run: Officers were dispatched at 12:42 p.m. to Moraga Road and Rheem Boulevard. A motorist said a small 4-door red sedan had rear-ended his vehicle while he was at the traffic light. The driver of the sedan drove off before exchanging information. Police searched the area but did not find the other driver. Damage to the victim's car was estimated at less than $500.

Large party: Officers went to a home on Lucia Lane at 11:18 p.m. for reports of a loud party. They discovered 200 college age guests at the house and in the back yard. Officers broke up the party and everyone went home.

Saturday, Oct. 5

Another party: Police went to a home on Ascot Drive at 11:55 p.m. for reports of a loud party. They found 15 people talking and drinking alcohol inside an apartment. The party was dispersed and the apartment resident was warned about the city's noise ordinance.

Sunday, Oct. 6 

Woman In The Road: Police were sent to Moraga Road and Ascot Drive at 12:11 a.m. They found a woman laying on her back in one of the southbound lanes on Moraga Road. She told police she was playing a joke on a friend. Officers gave the woman a sobriety test and her alcohol level came back at .14 percent. She was arrested for disorderly conduct and being drunk in public.

Not another party!: Officers went to a home on Ascot Drive at 2:14 a.m. for a report of a loud party. They found 10 people partying inside the house. The occupants were warned about the city's noise ordinance.

Fireworks infraction: Police were dispatched to Cortes Court at 3:56 p.m. for a report of fireworks heard in the area. Officers determined a 13-year-old had set some fireworks off. The juvenile and their parent were admonished.

Monday, Oct. 7

It's just a movie: Officers were sent to Calle La Montana for a report of a police car sitting on a trailer. Officers determined the car had been painted to look like a police vehicle for filming in a movie.
