Moraga Police Log: Noisy Football Players, Baby Formula Theft, Numerous Stolen Vehicles

Some of the incidents that kept Moraga police officers busy this past week

Here are some of the items on the Moraga Police Department police logs from Nov. 26 to Dec. 1.

Tuesday, Nov. 26

Park vandalism: Police went to the skate park on St. Mary's Road at 6 p.m. for a report of vandalism. Officers found a large amount of graffiti in two areas of the park. Damage is estimated at $1,000.

Wednesday, Nov. 27

Lost necklace: Police were notified at 10 a.m. by a resident who said her daughter had lost a $3,000 pendant necklace while jogging on the Lafayette-Moraga bike trail.

Football player noises: Officers went to the 2100 block of Donald Drive at 8:02 p.m. for a report of a group of teenage boys making loud noises in a storm drain. Police found members of a high school football team who said they were participating in a "team building exercise." The players were cautioned on the dangers of entering a storm drain.

Baby formula theft: Police were notified at 10:36 p.m. that two women had just taken $300 worth of baby formula without paying for it from the Safeway supermarket on Moraga Way. The women got into a car and drove off toward Orinda.

Thursday, Nov. 28

Stolen vehicle recovered: Police were informed at 2 p.m. that a 1993 Chevrolet pick-up truck had been taken from the parking lot of the Moraga Royale on Canyon Road. While police were talking with the victim, they received a report that the vehicle had been found on Vlader Drive near Moraga Way. The steering column had been damaged, but the truck was still drivable.

Friday, Nov. 29

Another stolen vehicle: A man called police at 9:49 a.m. to report his 1994 GMC Yukon overnight from the Valero gas station on Moraga Road. The two-door vehicle has an orange "Harley Davidson" sticker on its back window and two red "Yukon" stickers on the bottom of each door.

Yet another stolen vehicle: Officers were informed at 12:36 p.m. that a 1990 GMC Sierra pick-up truck had been stolen while parked in front of a home in the 100 block of Miramonte Drive.

Another stolen vehicle!: Police were notified at 3:01 p.m. that a green 2001 Dodge Ram truck had been stolen from the Safeway parking lot on Moraga Way. The victim said he was working at Bob's Christmas Tree lot when he heard his truck start up. He saw a man in his 30s wearing an orange baseball cap drive off in his vehicle.

Saturday, Nov. 30

Petty theft citation: A suspect was arrested for petty theft at 4:59 p.m. in the parking lot of the Home Goods Department Store on Moraga Road. A store employee met officers in the lot and pointed out the suspect sitting in a vehicle. The employee said the suspect had shoplifted from the store. The suspect was cited and released.

Sunday, Dec. 1

Enraged employee arrest: Police were dispatched at 3:05 p.m. to the TJ Maxx store on Center Street for a report of an irate employee. Officers determined the 35-year-old male employee had made criminal threats against a 54-year-old female customer. The employee was placed under arrest and searched. A knife was found in his possession. He was on misdemeanor probation that required him not to possess any weapons.
