Moraga Police Log: Home Burglaries, DUI & Drug Driver, Party At Dad's Place

Some of the incidents that kept Moraga police officers busy this past week

Some of the items on the Moraga Police Department logs from Jan. 14 to Jan. 20.

Tuesday, Jan. 14

Home burglary: Officers were notified at 8:00 a.m. that a home on Sanders Drive had been burglarized. The thieves had smashed a window and stolen a new television set, check books and some jewelry.

Wednesday, Jan. 15

Public drunkenness: A man was arrested for public intoxication at 1:22 a.m. after he was seen wandering through an apartment complex on Donald Drive.

Thursday, Jan. 16

Babysitter alarm: Police were dispatched at 2:21 p.m. to a home on Larch Avenue for a report of a home's security alarms going off. Officers determined a babysitter had opened a door and set off the alarm. The babysitter was told the alarm would not be set that day. She didn't have the alarm system's code.

DUI, drug arrest: A 22-year-old driver was arrested at 7:59 p.m. for driving under the influence and drug possession and his 23-year-old passenger were arrested for drug possession and possession of hypodermic needles. Officers said they found the two at the scene of a solo car accident at Camino Pablo and Rimer Drive. The driver told officers a deer had darted in front of his car, causing him to swerve and crash. However, officers said they found cocaine, marijuana, hypodermic needles and other drug-related items near the vehicle.

Friday, Jan. 17

Home burglary: Officers were notified at 8:10 a.m. that a home had been burglarized on Buckingham Drive. The thief smashed a window and ransacked the house. The loss had not been determined.

Loud party: Police were informed at 10:50 p.m. about a loud party at an apartment on Ascot Drive. Officers found about 50 people at the party. The apartment resident was advised of the city's noise ordinance and the party-goers dispersed.

Saturday, Jan. 18

Party at dad's apartment: Officers were dispatched at 11:00 p.m. to a party at an apartment on Ascot Drive. Police found more than 20 people under the age of 21 years old drinking. Officers said the 16-year-old host of the party ran off. He was later found and admitted to organizing the party while his father was away. The youth was cited and released to the custody of his mother.

Monday, Jan. 20

Tree damage: Police were notified at 8:30 a.m. to a home on Deerfield Drive where the resident said a tree service had cut down a large pine tree, causing it to fall on his fence. The company was contacting the owner to determine the damage.

Attempted scam: Officers were dispatched at 1:29 p.m. to a home on Wandel Court where an older woman said she received a call from a man who said he was her grandson and asked her to wire him $2,000 in the Bahamas. The woman said Western Union employees convinced her not to wire the money.
