Moraga Police Log: Fishy Mail, DUI Arrest, Park Vandalism

Some of the incidents that kept Moraga police officers busy during the past week

Here are some of the items listed on the Moraga Police Department logs from Oct. 24 to Oct. 28.

Thursday, Oct. 24

Fishy package: Officers responded to the St. Mary's College public safety department at 7:37 a.m. for a report of a foul smell coming from a padded envelope that had arrived in the mail room on Oct. 18. Police contacted the package recipient and determined the envelope contained smoked trout. The package was tossed out.

Friday, Oct. 25

Road blocker: Police went to the 200 block of Rheem Boulevard for a report of a vehicle blocking one of the eastbound lanes. They found a black BMW with one its tires stuck in a drainage ditch. The driver told officers he was trying to make a U-turn when he misjudged the roadway and ended up with one tire in the ditch. A tow truck was called in to move the vehicle.

Saturday, Oct. 26

DUI arrest: A 33-year-old Moraga man was arrested at 2 a.m. for driving under the influence after his white 2006 Infiniti was stopped for speeding near Donald Drive and Carroll Drive. Officers gave the driver a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level at .23 percent. Officers also discovered the man's license was suspended due to a prior DUI conviction. The driver was arrested and taken to Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez.

Hit-run accident: Officers responded to Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School at 2:09 p.m. for a report of a hit-and-run accident. Witnesses told police a woman had backed her SUV into a concrete barrier post, damaging it. They said the driver got out of her vehicle, looked at the post and then drove off. Police were given a license plate number and the case is under investigation.

Sunday, Oct. 27

Loud chainsaw: Officers went to a residence in the 2000 block of Donald Drive at 10:44 a.m. for a report of a loud chainsaw. Police contacted the maintenance crew, who agreed to come back and trim trees later in the day.

Monday, Oct. 28

Park vandalism: Police went to Moraga Commons Park at 9:40 a.m. for a report of vandalism. Officers discovered graffiti written in blue and white block letters in the bowl of the skate park. Police photographed the graffiti and the case is under investigation.
