Moraga Police Log: College Computer Theft, Flat Tire DUI, 80 MPH In A 35 MPH Zone

Some of the incidents that kept Moraga police officers busy this past week

Some of the items on the Moraga Police Department logs from Nov. 6 to Nov. 12.

Wednesday, Nov. 6

Grand theft: Officers were notified at 8:53 a.m. that an Apple laptop computer worth $1,200 had been stolen from the St. Mary's College library.

Thursday, Nov. 7

Dog bite: Officers were dispatched at 8:01 a.m. to Sanders Ranch Road near Camino Pablo for a report of a woman who was bitten on the hand by a dog while walking on the nearby bike trail. Officers determined the leashed German Shepherd had lunged at the elderly woman and bitten her. She was treated by fire personnel at the scene.

Friday, Nov. 8

DUI arrest: A 46-year-old driver was cited for driving under the influence after officers saw them driving 50 miles per hour on Moraga Road at 1:51 a.m. The driver was given three field tests that showed their blood alcohol level to be greater than .15 percent.

Ice toss: A motorist told police at 8:30 p.m. that he was driving on Camino Pablo in the Sanders Ranch area when the driver of another car threw a bag of ice that hit his windshield. There was no damage to the victim's car. It's not known why the other driver tossed the ice.

Saturday, Nov. 9

Loud party: 
Officers went to a home on Lucia Lane at 12:24 a.m. for a report of a loud party. When they arrived, the homeowner told officers he had called police to help him break up a party that had become too loud. Officers stayed on the scene while the 40 partygoers dispersed.

Way too fast: At 12:59 a.m. officers observed a 1998 white Honda Civic speeding at more than 80 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone on northbound Moraga Road. The vehicle eventually crashed into a guard rail near Sky Hy. Officers checked the driver, who showed no signs of impairment. He said he wasn't sure why he was driving so fast. "I guess I have speed in my blood," he said. The driver was given a ticket for violating the maximum speed limit of 65 miles per hour on a California road.

Sunday, Nov. 10

Stolen property arrest: Officers arrested a suspect at 3:35 p.m. at the Home Goods store on Moraga Road for possession of stolen property. A security officer at the store had notified police, saying the suspect was believed to have stolen goods from the Home Goods store in San Ramon. Officers found the suspect in a vehicle in the Moraga parking lot and found the stolen property inside.

Monday, Nov. 11

Flat tire DUI: A 21-year-old Moraga man was arrested at 2:24 a.m. for driving under the influence after an officer noticed him driving his gray 2012 Hyundai with a flat tire on Moraga Way near Camino Ricardo. Field tests given to the driver showed a blood alcohol level of .20 percent.

Tuesday, Nov. 12

Jacket stolen: 
Officers were informed at 2:48 p.m. that a man had his Campolindo High letterman's jacket valued at $500 stolen from the back seat of his unlocked vehicle that was parked outside the Taco Bell on Moraga Road.
