Moraga Police Log: Bad Luck for Biker, Scarecrow in the Road, Porch Theft

Monday, May 29, 2013
7:50am –
A motorcyclist was speeding on Corliss Dr. when he had the ill fortune to encounter a police car parked near the street. When they pulled the driver over, it was discovered he was driving on a suspended license. His bike was towed, and the driver cited. Bad way to start the day.

1:08pm –
A call was received about a scarecrow on St. Mary’s Rd. The caller wanted police to make sure it was not, in fact, a human. Officers determined that it was a scarecrow and threw it away.

9:41pm – While conducting a welfare check on Camino Pablo Rd., officers spotted a car with two teenagers, a young man and a young woman, who said they were “just talking.” The driver, however, had only a learner’s permit, and was not allowed to drive other minors. Parents were notified and the girl walked home. Awkward.

8:00am –
As they did the day before, officers on Corliss Dr. pulled over a motorcycle driver only to discover it was the same guy as the day before, who was cited for driving on a suspended license. Officers again towed his motorcycle and cited him.

4:32pm – A burglary was reported on Corte del Caballo. The thief entered through an open window and stole jewelry.

4:45pm – A package of medical equipment worth more than $20,000 was stolen off a porch on Shuey Dr. Be careful of porch thieves. It’s getting more prevalent in Moraga.

8:47pm – Police received several calls about a car on the 1400 block of St. Mary’s Rd. hitting several objects while trying to back out. The driver appeared intoxicated and there was a child in the car. Officers located the driver at home and she was transported to John Muir Hospital, where it was suspected she was intoxicated. Blood tests were taken and the District Attorney notified. The child was unharmed and released into the care of his father.

7:50am –
A woman in the parking lot of Safeway reported that she returned to her car to find the window smashed out, her purse and some other items stolen. There are no suspects as yet.

12:15pm – An alert resident received a call from someone who said they were from Bank of America, and asked for their address so they could send them a free medical alert kit. The resident hung up and called Bank of America, who said that the call was indeed a scam. Be vigilant, and suspicious of anyone who calls offering anything free in exchange for your information.
