Moraga Police Arrest Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy; Suspicion of Rape

A 27-year-old Alameda County sheriff's deputy was arrested by Moraga police Wednesday.

Moraga police arrested an Alameda County sheriff's deputy this morning on  suspicion of raping a woman in Moraga several months ago, Chief Robert Priebe said in a prepared released.

Deputy David Reta, 27, was arrested during his shift at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Priebe said, on suspicion of sexually assaulting a Moraga woman in September.

Police obtained a warrant for Reta's arrest on Tuesday, Priebe said. The deputy was arrested on suspicion of forcible rape and attempted forcible oral copulation, felony charges stemming from an attack on an adult woman in Moraga Sept. 9.

Priebe said Reta and the alleged victim knew each other.

Moraga police were notified of the alleged crime on Nov. 9, according to Priebe, when they were contacted by Alameda County sheriff investigators -- who spearheaded the investigation.

Both agencies presented the case against Reta to the District Attorney, the charges were filed and an arrest warrant issued, Priebe said.

Reta, a Union City resident, was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility Wednesday but was later released on $125,000 bail, Contra Costa County sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee told Bay City News.
