Moraga PD: Mysterious Man With a Shovel

Also, a mysterious package from an Internet admirer, and other questionable acts and crimes reported to the Moraga police from April 23 to April 25.

April 23
Possible vehicle burglary. Moraga police investigated the smashing of the driver's-side front window of a vehicle parked at the curb of the 800 block of Country Club Drive, reported at 11 p.m. The burglar apparently used a rock found on the median of Country Club drive to smash the window. It was determined that nothing was taken from the vehicle. The damage to the vehicle was estimated at $250.

April 24
Man with a shovel. Reported at midnight, police responded to a report of a black man in his late 30s or early 40s, with dreadlocks. When a resident slowed to get a better look, the man threw down a shovel and ran into a wooded area along Donald Drive at Mulholland Ridge. Officers searched and did not find the man.

Solicitors. Reported at 11:54 a.m., three people were soliciting at Corte Monterey at Campolindo Drive without town soliciting permits, police reported. They were advised to stop until they obtained a permit, and came back clear on a warrant check.

Internet relationship. A Joseph Drive resident contacted police over suspicions of "romantic advances" received from an unknown adult over the Internet. The resident became suspicious when the unknown person unexpectedly dropped off a package at the resident's home. Officers are investigating.

Creek dumping? Officers investigated a report received at 5 p.m. of possible "illegal dumping" in the creek near Deerfield Drive. A resident reported that "fish that were normally in the creek were gone and there was algae that had not been there the year before." Officers checked the creek on both sides of Camino Pablo with negative results, police reported.

April 25.
Lock your Toyota. Reported at 3 a.m., a Chalda Way resident reported her unlocked Toyota parked at a carport had been broken into and numerous items, valued at $1,474, stolen. Police are investigating.
