Moraga PD: An Insult to Ben Franklin
Moraga police blotter from Dec 5 to Dec. 11, including a rejected counterfeit $100 bill for six bucks worth of hardware.
Dec. 5
Vandals on construction site spree. Unknown suspects entered a building under construction at 1150 Moraga Way. They spray-painted on the walls and damaged the roof, perhaps also dropping some trash. The vandalism occurred between Nov. 25 and Dec. 5, according to a report by the Moraga Police Department.
Scrappy suspect. A suspect got all feisty with officers. That resulted in charges of obstructing police duties and assaulting a police officer being added to DUI for the driver of a Chrysler 300 in front of 7-Eleven on Moraga Road. A Preliminary Alcohol Screening (PAS) test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.178 percent for the subject, officers reported.
Dec. 7
Love triangle. At 11:38 p.m., two roommates came to blows "as a result of a dispute over a mutual love interest," police reported. One woman struck the other on the side of the face with a closed hand. The assailant confessed, apologized and agreed to spend the night away from the Ascot Drive residence.
Theft at school. At 2:30 p.m., maintenance equipment valued at $2,500 was reported stolen from a storage shed at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School. Suspect or suspects got in with a pry tool.
Dec. 9
A $100 insult to Ben Franklin. At 11:44 a.m., the owner of Moraga Hardware reported a black male adult tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill to buy $6 worth of irrigation supplies. The store returned the bill to the man, who left the area in a possibly Navy blue Chevrolet SUV. The reported license plate number did not match a number on file at the DMV, police said.
Alleged shoplifting. Officers investigated a second-hand report of a shoplifter at Safeway. Officers checked the area without finding the suspect. "Safeway management could not confirm what items were taken," police reported. The suspect was described as a white male adult, late twenties or early 30s, 5-foot-11 and 220 pounds, wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and a maroon backpack.
