Moraga Man Charged With Assault, Attempting To Disarm Officer

A Moraga resident was charged with two felony counts stemming from his attempt to disarm a police officer as he was being booked for domestic battery.

 

Moraga police announced Wednesday that a local man will be charged with two felony counts of assaulting and attempting to disarm an officer attempting to book him on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge.

Police Chief Bob Priebe identified the man as Joseph Rudolph Sienkiewicz, 65, of Moraga and said that Sienkiewicz was arrested for inflicting corporal punishment on his spouse June 25. Taken to Moraga police offices for booking, Sienkiewicz allegedly assaulted the arresting officer and attemped to take the officer's sidearm, Priebe said.

The officer managed to subdue Sienkiewicz, Priebe said, and the Moraga man was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility after he was treated for undisclosed injuries received during the struggle.

Sienkiewicz was charged Wednesday with two felony counts stemming from his alleged assault on the officer as well as a single misdemeanor for assaulting his wife.
