Moraga Home Burglarized During Fireworks Show

A Camino Woods couple left their home for an hour to watch the fireworks show Monday night and got a rude awakening when they returned.

A Moraga family who left their Camino Woods home to take in the fireworks show in town Monday said they were gone only an hour — but that's apparently all it took for thieves to enter their residence and take money and $15,000 in jewelry.

"They tried the low dining room window first, then resorted to the classic kick(ing) the garage side door in," said Mary (Patch is withholding the couple's names for their safety. "They took all my jewelry and some money on top of (the) dresser."

The couple called police and praised their handling of the incident, but said officers had to make their way to their Millfield Drive home through traffic from the fireworks show and that took time.

The couple also said they had been reading accounts of local break-ins in Patch and had taken steps to secure their home as a result.

"We were already pretty on top of our house but in addition to getting a new door we may now go (get) a security system, too?" said Tom. "The important thing is to keep people informed and the sad reality is we are not safe."
