Five MOFD firefighters were dispatched to help fight fires burning across the state this week. Four returned to Lamorinda Thursday and started the really big job all firefighters love -- cleaning up the engine.
Captain Marquardt, engineer Mazaika, firefighter paramedic Nygard, firefighter Hoover returned after almost a week on the fire lines in Shasta/Tehama County where the Ponderosa Fire blackened more than 28,000 acres and destroyed 84 structures.
MOFD Division Chief Darrell Lee said the fire forced the evacuation of more than 3,000 residents. Lee said 2,500 firefighters and 260 fire engines are battling the blaze, which is only 60 percent contained.
MOFD still has one paramedic on the line at the Fort Complex Fire in Klamath National Forrest. He will end his two week assignment this weekend.
