Lafayette Police Still Searching for Bank Robber

Westamerica Bank was robbed about 9 a.m. Thursday, prompting an order to lock down nearby schools

Authorities are still searching for a man who robbed the Westamerica Bank at 3515 Mt. Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette on Wednesday morning.

Lafayette police said the man entered the bank about 9:10 a.m. and handed a teller a note demanding cash. After he received the money, he ran eastbound on Mt. Diablo Boulevard.

The robbery suspect is described as a white man in his 20s, about 5-11 and weighing 160 pounds. He was wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, black colored jeans and a navy blue polo shirt.

Two public schools in Lafayette were placed on lock-down status for about two hours as police searched for a bank robbery suspect.

Police said Stanley Middle School and Lafayette Elementary School as well as several pre-schools in the area were placed on lock down as a precaution. The alert was lifted about 11 a.m.
