Lafayette Police Detain Man Suspected of Brandishing Gun in Parking Lot Dispute

A man believed to have flashed a pistol in a parking lot dispute at El Charro restaurant in Lafayette is stopped by police on Happy Valley Road.

A man wanted for questioning in connection with an armed confrontation in the parking lot of the El Charro restaurant in Lafayette Tuesday evening was stopped by police and eventually taken into custody after police spotted him on Happy Valley Road.

Several police cars conducted a felony stop on a red pickup truck on Happy Valley after witnesses allegedly saw the driver draw and brandish a revolver in a parking lot dispute in the restaurant parking lot.

The incident began with calls from the popular restaurant at about 6:19 p.m., with callers stating that a dispute between two parties over a car door hitting another vehicle escalated into a shouting match and the gun being drawn.

Details are sketchy as police are on the scene but reports from patrons at the restaurant and passersby indicate that the truck was stopped at about 6:36 p.m., the truck's lone male occupant detained, and a gun found and confiscated.
