Crime & Safety

Lafayette Police Blotter: Suburban Vandals and Visigoths; Drunken Crackup; Locker Room Loss

There were some dirty deeds done and bad guys at work in Lafayette in recent weeks. Police are on the hunt.

Lafayette Police Blotter April 3 thru April 17

DUI: "Dad, can I take the SUV out tonight?"
When Lafayette police responded to a traffic collision in the 2000 block of Reliez Valley Road on April 17 at 1:30 a.m., they not only found a traffic mess but an apparently intoxicated 18-year-old male driving involved in the accident.

The driver, an Acalanes High School student who was driving his father’s Ford Expedition SUV when he collided with another car, was arrested after submitting to and failing the preliminary alcohol test.

Felony Vandalism: Tire slashing
Lafayette Police responded to a call of vehicle vandalism from a resident in the 4000 block of Los Arabis Drive on April 16 at 9 a.m. When officers arrived, the 58-year-old man explained that his two cars were parked in the driveway
overnight when they were vandalized.

A Mercedes four-door sedan had both tires on the right side punctured and a Saab, which is primarily driven by the homeowner’s 26-year-old son, was also vandalized. Neither the son nor the father had any knowledge of anyone who may have punctured the tires. Currently, there are no leads, witnesses or suspects in this case.

Grand Theft from Building: Locker room thieves sieze the moment - and some other things.
While players and coaches were busy with the lacrosse game on Tuesday night, April 12th, thieves siezed the opportunity to steal various items out of the bags belonging to several players from the boys locker room at Acalanes High School.

Lafayette Police responded immediately to a call from the school lacrosse coach after several players noticed their phones and cash were missing from their bags. The coach explained to the police that there are no lockers available to secure valuables so anyone walking into the locker room can easily steal personal items.

Police and school officials will review video footage for possible suspects.

Misdemeanor Vandalism: "Ah, the sound of breaking glass..."
On April 3 at 10 a.m., Lafayette police responded to a call about vandalism in the 1100 block of Estates Drive.

When officers arrived, a visibly upset 63-year-old man told the police that he had just returned from vacation when he saw that his decorative lights at the entrance of his driveway had been knocked over and permanently damaged by vandals.

According to the police report, the two cast iron light fixtures on two brick pillars appeared to have been knocked over by a bat or similar object. The victim told police it would cost approximately $200 to replace the light fixtures. More information on possible suspects may be available and the case is pending upon further investigation.
