Lafayette Police Blotter - May 12 - 17

Lafayette police are following up on a string of car burglaries in a hotel parking lot and other crimes which took place in their town recently.

Identity Theft:

On May 17 at 8:34 a.m, a 53-year-old Lafayette man came into the Lafayette Police station reporting he had been a victim of identity theft. He told officers he received a letter from a collection agency that was trying to collect on a cellular phone account with T-Mobile. When he called T-Mobile wondering why he had received this collection letter, he discovered someone had opened an account under his name in the state of New York.

He reported the fraudulent account with T-Mobile and gave Lafayette Police the letter from the collection agency.

 Petty Theft:

On May 16, Lafayette Police were called to a report of petty theft in the 900 block of Thompson Road. When officers arrived, a 55-year-old man said his bicycle, which was locked to a railing outside of his apartment had been stolen. He told officers he discovered the lock on his bike was cut and he noticed it had been missing since May 1. When officers asked why he waited so long to report the missing bike, the man said he just didn't get around to reporting it to the police.

 The missing Kona brand mountain bike is dark green with an unknown serial number and had an estimated value of $400.

 

Grand Theft from Vehicles:

Patrons of the Lafayette Park Hotel received a rude awakening recently when thieves got into the hotel's parking garage and began ransacking their cars for goods.

On May 12 at 2 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to a report of multiple auto burglaries in the 3200 block of Mount Diablo Boulevard. When officers arrived, the manager at the Lafayette Park Hotel reported three incidents of auto burglaries in the hotel's parking lot.

In the first instance, a 36-year-old Dublin woman who said she had parked her Buick Road Master in the parking garage of the Lafayette Park Hotel on May 10 and when she returned to her car two days later, she noticed the driver's side wing window was broken.

She said a black men's jacket estimated around $100 was missing. The damage to the driver's side wing window was estimated around $100.

In the same parking lot, a second auto burglary was reported by another hotel patron. The 49 year-old Saskatoon Canadian man told officers he discovered the Ford Crown Victoria and items worth an estimated $1,400 had been taken.

A third burglary was reported to police by a 55 year-old Woodland Washington man who was a guest at the hotel. He told officers his Chevy Tahoe SUV was broken into by unknown suspects who broke the rear hatch window, left rear passenger window and stole a Browning handgun.

The estimated cost for the missing items was $5,023 and the damage to the car was estimated around $400. Crime Scene Investigators processed the car for evidence and currently there are no leads, suspects or witnesses in all three cases.
