Lafayette Police Blotter: Just the Facts Ma'am

Counselors, mediators, psychiatrists - occasional John and Jane Waynes, Lamorinda's police officers are a busy bunch.

Here's a little bit of data mining from the desk of Lafayette Police Chief Mike Hubbard, courtesy of his officers and City Manager Steve Falk, who thought it important for residents to know what the local police were up to during the summer.

"During the summer months we handled 28 auto burglaries and 15 residential burglaries. We recovered 10 stolen vehicles and responded to 31 incidents of vandalism," Hubbard reports. "We went to 13 grand theft calls and 34 petty theft calls. We received a hundred and thirty-three 911 calls and we responded to 572 alarms; all of them false!"

Lafayette police conducted 1,423 self initiated activities and wrote 310 reports.

"We ruined the vacation months for 58 people by taking them to jail -- 18 of those people were arrested for DUI," according to the chief. "In all, we handled 3,380 calls for service."

Next summer, the chief says, he and his hardworking officers "seriously need to consider (a) Disneyland trip instead!"
