Lafayette PD Taps Motorhead Sleuths Again

This photo is of a car involved in an April 3 residential burglary on Cambridge Drive.

Lafayette police are seeking the expertise of amateur automotive detectives — again — in helping to crack a burglary.

This photo is of a car believed to be involved in a midday residential burglary on the 1000 block of Cambridge Drive, near Happy Valley Road, on April 3. The burglars broke the front-door glass and got in, stealing personal property items and then getting real personal. They found keys and made off with the residents' 2010 Mustang, license plate 6LPY522, police said.

If you can help police identify the make, model and year of the car in the photo, please call (925) 283-3680 or email 94549Tip@gmail.com, asks Lafayette Police Chief Eric Christensen. The photo came from a neighbor's external video surveillance system, Christensen said, and shows a car that left the area just before the stolen Mustang left, "leading us to believe it is involved."

With a more obscure photo, similar tips helped police in a burglary probe in late March, but no arrest has been made yet as the investigation continues, Christensen said. That nighttime burglary was in the area of the Lafayette BART station, and police used a photo from a neighbor's video security system.
