Lafayette Officers Stop Burglary Spree

Lafayette police arrest San Pablo man who reportedly was casing a home on Laurel Drive; an Orinda officer spotted the man hiding inside cab of a parked truck.

An alert citizen plus an alert police officer equaled the arrest of a would-be burglar on charges of possession of stolen property and a parole violation.

Arrested was Barry Allred, 45, of San Pablo.

Lafayette Police Chief Eric Christensen gave the following account:

It started with a resident on Thursday morning observing a man in dark clothing looking through the windows of her home. This was in the 1100 block of Laurel Drive, in the highlands above Deer Hill Road, Lafayette. Lafayette and Orinda officers responded. An Orinda officer noticed a man hiding inside the cab of a truck parked a block from the home.

Officers contacted the driver, who was found to be on parole for possession of stolen property. Officers searched the truck and found property that had been stolen in two auto burglaries overnight in Martinez. Allred was arrested and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
