Icy Road Sends Porsche Into a Tree

No injury in Canyon Road accident Thursday morning, Moraga police report.

If you're driving around dawn and thereafter on these cold mornings, beware of black ice.

A driver escaped injury when his car lost control on Canyon Road ice in Moraga and hit a tree around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

There's a spot where water drains off a slope that was repaired a decade or more ago, said Patch reader Scott Bowhay. The water off the slope was frozen Thursday morning.

"Fortunately I know the road and was taking it slow," wrote Bowhay in an email. "I slipped a little, but was able to avoid the beautiful (formerly) Porsche that had obviously lost control before slamming into the embankment."

A Good Samaritan was there putting out flares to warn other drivers, Bowhay said.

The Porsche was towed. "Officers conducted traffic control and Public Works responded to place signs and salt on the roadway to mitigate the hazard," according to the report by Moraga police.
