Home Invasion Suspect Leads Cops in Chase, Escapes

A K-9 unit and officers from three departments failed to catch a man who fled from Moraga police Tuesday morning.

A man fleeing from police early Tuesday morning ran into a home on Dolores Court and into a child's bedroom attempting to hide before running away, Moraga police said.

The harrowing events began around 6:10 a.m., when police spotted a man near Moraga Commons Park driving a Honda Civic that had been reported stolen. As police made a U-turn, the driver sped away. Police gave chase, and the suspect finally crashed into a wall near the intersection of Moraga Rd. and Rheem Blvd.

The driver then kicked out a car window and ran into a nearby 24 Hour Fitness, then out the back door. That's when the suspect entered the home on Dolores Ct. through an open garage door, and into the child's room. He then ran back into the garage, where the father confronted the suspect, who then ran off. No one in the home was hurt or threatened during the invasion.

The suspect is a white male adult, in his mid-20s, with a shaved head and no facial hair, approximately 5’10” tall with medium build, last seen wearing a white tee shirt and baggy jeans.

Officers from Orinda and Lafayette helped search the area, and a K-9 unit from the Sheriff's Department also responded, but the suspect could not be found.

Police did find property in the stolen vehicle that had been taken from other cars in the area.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Moraga Police Department at 925-888-7055 ext. 0.
