Halloween Partying No Treat for the Neighbors

A series of alcohol-fueled celebrations kept Moraga police and fire busy over the weekend.

On All Hallows Eve, Moraga police rolled out to a home in the 600 block of Moraga Road to answer a loud-party complaint. Several guests were leaving as officers arrived, and some female partygoers advised officers that a female tenant had been punched in the nose by another woman when the partygoer was invited to leave. The victim appeared to have a broken nose but declined medical attention. She also declined to press charges against the pugilist and told officers she'd drive herself to the hospital to have her nose checked.

And later, at 1:43 a.m., Moraga police answered a call for an unresponsive young man down inside a residence in the 1000 block of Sanders Drive. Moraga-Orinda Fire personnel were on the scene and attempting to help the 17-year-old breathe. It was determined that he had consumed a combination of rum and beer at a party following the Campolindo homecoming dance and that friends drove him to the Sanders residence before calling for help. He was released from the hospital the next morning.

On Oct. 30, officers responded to complaints of loud music in the unit block of Wandel Drive at 10:12 p.m. Officers, who stayed around while a crowd of about 75 dispersed issued a warning notice advising the residents of the town's loud and unruly party ordinance. Apparently, that didn't work because police were sent back to the house at 11:08 p.m., when the party kicked off again. This time, the occupants were issued a citation for violating the ordinance and things quieted down for keeps.

A little later, at 11:38 that night, police again were sent to a recidivist party location in the 100 block of Whitethorne Drive. Thirty-five guests were invited to leave and each of the home's occupants was handed an individual citation for the noise violation.

Moraga police answered a complaint of loud music and unreasonable noise at 11:19 p.m. on Oct. 29. Officers arrived at a residence in the unit block of Buckingham Drive to find things in full swing, with 150 people inside. Officers contacted the renters of the residence and they agreed to disband the party, though two of the residents were issued a warning for hosting a loud or unruly party. A partygoer also was cited for riding a bicycle under the influence when he attempted to pedal off in a rather unsteady fashion.
