Car Accident Sparks Grass Fire at Bear Creek and Happy Valley Roads

Contra Costa County Fire District crews are putting down a slow-burning grass fire burning this morning near Briones Regional Park.

A car accident on Bear Creek Road has touched off a three-acre grass fire that scorched about three acres this morning at Bear Creek and Happy Valley roads.

Several crews and water tenders from the Contra Costa County Fire District contained the fire at 6:57 a.m., about forty minutes after it was first reported.  A car, believed to have sparked the fire, has been found off the roadway and is being investigated.

Today's fire is not far from where a bicyclist took a bad spill yesterday morning, suffering a head injury and requiring assistance.  If you're on the road today, on two wheels or four, take it easy out there!
