Firefighters Control 2 Brush Fires Monday Near Orinda

Crews doused two vegetation fires in unincorporated areas near Orinda on Monday afternoon, Moraga-Orinda Fire District Chief Stephen Healy said today.

The first fire broke out around 2:20 p.m. on Grizzly Peak Boulevard near Skyline Boulevard within the Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve, Healy said. Oakland firefighters were the first to arrive on scene and aggressively attacked the blaze, he said.

The chief said the fire burned less than an acre of grass and brush and was under control around 2:45 p.m. A second vegetation fire was reported at 2:47 p.m. on East Bay Municipal Utility District property north of Bear Creek Road about a mile east of San Pablo Dam Road, Healy said.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze in about 20 minutes and kept it confined to about half an acre, he said.

No structures were damaged and no firefighters were injured during either fire.

Both fires remain under investigation and no signs of arson or fireworks were found, Healy said.
